• The Yongnuo YN-568EX ii speedlite flash for Canon or Nikon is a great 3rd party flash. This Yongnuo 568EX ii review will cover its features, including its Master Control, Wireless E-TTL and High Speed Sync functions. The 568EX ii is a direct competitor of the Canon 580EX ii (Canon has since released a newer version “600EX-RT”) and is comparable to the Nikon SB-910. The most amazing part about this flash is that it costs less than 1/4 of the Canon or Nikon flash, at about $100.

  Master Flash Control
• The master flash control function allows you to use your YN-568EX ii as the master and control up to 3 groups (A, B & C) of slave speedlites. You’ll be able to operate it in either E-TTL, manual or Multi-Mode.
• This flash can also act as a slave and be controlled by any other master flash. The master/slave mode is great for off-camera shooting to shoot from an angle because, as you may already know, pointing the flash directly at your subject can produce harsh lighting.
• High Speed Sync
  The benefit of High Speed Sync is that, when enabled, it will allow you to shoot with your shutter speed higher than 1/250 (some cameras are 1/200). This is most important when shooting outside in daylight because it will prevent your shots from being blown out or over exposed by the combination of flash and sunlight. With HSS you’ll be able to shoot with shutter speeds of up to 1/8000s.
• E-TTL/Manual/Multi Mode
• The YN-568EX ii is equipped with full E-TTL/I-TTL (Evaluative Through The Lens- Canon, Intelligent Through The Lens – Nikon) metering capabilities. When you take a picture, the flash will first fire off a pre-flash that meters the flash and determines how much power the flash will need to expose your image correctly. E-TTL is like the “auto” function of a camera where it will determine the correct value of the settings for you.
• In manual mode, you are able to adjust the exposure and have full control of the power output. You’ll be able to set the exposure in full stops from 1/1 – 1/128 and 1/3 stops between. Shooting in manual mode allows you to remain consistent between shots, knowing exactly how much power you are using. E-TTL does not display the power used for each shot.
• Yongnuo YN-568EX II Multi ModeMulti Mode is Yongnuo’s version of stroboscopic “strobe” flash.   This function is used mostly when trying to freeze the motion of a moving object; like a falling ball or spraying water. You can set the power of the exposure, the number of flashes and the length of time (in seconds). For example, you could set the power at 1/64 and the strobe to flash 6 times over a period of 2 seconds: capturing 6 different positions of the object in one picture.
• Remote Wireless Slave Mode
• Remote wireless slave mode gives you the ability to use your YN-568EX ii off camera without any triggers. The same one flash can be used with either Canon or Nikon cameras or flash as the master. The master and any slave units must be within line of sight to communicate and execute the flashes at the same time.   Yongnuo also has the YN-622C radio triggers that make the connection between master and slaves even easier, as no line of sight is needed.
• Recycle Time
• The recycle time (time that it takes for the flash to be ready to be used again) at full power is fairly quick for a low-cost flash, being 2-3 seconds. The average recycle time for the Canon 580EX ii is 5 seconds (with alkaline batteries), so I am shocked and pretty impressed that theYN-568EX ii is quicker.
